Two high school seniors will each receive a $1,000 scholarship and a weeklong all expenses paid, trip to Washington, D.C. in June 2007.

In addition to receiving the $1,000 scholarships, the two students will attend “Illinois Electric and Telephone Cooperatives Youth Day” in Springfield in March 2007 to see state government in action. Around 200 young people will be participating in this annual event.

Moreover, the scholarship winners will join over 90 students from Illinois electric and telephone cooperatives in Springfield in June where they will board tour buses and travel to Washington. They will tour the nation’s capital with more than 1,000 students representing cooperatives from across the nation. During the week in the nation’s capital, these students get an up close, first-hand look at democracy in action. Students learn how government works and why it’s important for every citizen to get involved in government.
