Not even the rain could dampen the festivities at the 2011 Annual Meeting.

After last year’s annual meeting move back to PBL schools, we knew we had some things to fix. Mission accomplished!!

On Thursday, June 9, over 900 members and their families (totaling over 1,700 people) attended Eastern Illini’s Annual Meeting. Registration was a breeze, and the serving lines moved quickly.

The 2011 meeting featured many activities for children of all ages, including a bounce house, inflatable obstacle course, bucket truck rides, inflatable mega-slide, ice cream, the Gene Trimble Band and Oscar the Talking Robot. State Senator Shane Cultra also attended.

Niemerg’s Catering again provided the main meal and new this year, Rocking K Chuckwagon provided hot dogs, ice cream, popcorn and drinks for those relaxing outside.

Seminars were also held during the meeting, featuring unique topics like how to select the right cut of meat, proper plant care, and how to eliminate distracted driving.

The day was not without excitement, though, as a quick storm and a tornado warning rolled through Paxton. With safety a priority, meeting attendees were ushered into the PBL Junior High hallways to wait out the storm. Fortunately it passed quickly, the sun came back out, and the action continued.

The actual business meeting featured a visit by State Representative Jason Barickman, and the re-election of three sitting board members: Thomas Schlatter of Chatsworth; Marion Chesnut of Rossville; and Jay Hageman of Fairmount.

Board Chairman Harold Loy of Beaverville, and Eastern Illini President/CEO Wm. David Champion Jr., discussed the current state of the cooperative, and things are looking good!

Eastern Illini will distribute capital credits later in 2011, and we will begin to receive electricity from the new Prairie State Energy Campus in late 2011. Co-op officials are also closely monitoring pending government regulations to see what kind of impact they will have on future energy bills. A new billing and metering program called PrePaid Advantage is also now available.
