Join us on Saturday, May 9 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the home of Philip and Teresa Rogers in rural Saint Joseph to see their wind turbine and solar panels in action. A free lunch will also be provided!
After having been interested in renewable energy sources for some time, the Rogers’ recently completed construction on 2 “green” projects designed to “do their part,” reduce their energy bill, and sell excess electricity back to Eastern Illini.
The Rogers’ installed a 2.4 kw wind turbine in their backyard, and a 3.8 kw solar voltaic cell system on their garage roof. Philip Rogers noted, “My father-in-law was really ahead of his time in working with solar projects, and in a lot of ways, our new system is a dedication to him.”

The open house will feature distributors of both the wind turbine and solar panels. Eastern Illini representatives will also be on hand to discuss the cooperative’s net-metering program. Basically, any time the Rogers are producing their own electricity those kWh will offset the kWh hours they receive from Eastern Illini.
Eastern Illini’s President/CEO Dave Champion noted, “As a member-owned electric cooperative, we are interested in renewable energy and how we can assist our members in working with the technology. Our net-metering program really paves the way for our members to take full control of their energy use and electric bill.”
